Para mayo se espera una decisión por parte de la ESA por la cual se añada un orbitador a la misión ExoMars, según Daniel Sacotte, director de vuelo tripulado, microgravedad y exploración de la Agencia. Más información en http://www.marssociety.org.es El pasado día 26 de enero, TMSE ofreció la conferencia “DE LA TIERRA A MARTE DESDE LA COMARCA DEL SURESTE DE GRAN CANARIA”en la pueblo de Temisas. Esta conferencia, además de para informar acerca de la Aparición de Marte de 2007-2008, forma parte de las actividades de colaboración de TMSE en el proyecto del Observatorio Astronómico de Temisas (OAT), promovido por Mario Villanueva, expresidente de la Agrupación Astronómica de Gran Canaria (AAGC). Algunos de los asistentes se interesaron de forma especial por la valoración del interés de colonizar la Luna antes que Marte, así como de la exploración tripulada en general. Durante la YN07 se presentarán los proyectos First Mars Spanish Misión (MSM1), Space Leisure Center (SLC) y la campaña internacional Free Space para impulsar la colonización del Espacio. Aprovecho al oportunidad para informarle acerca de la intervención de TMSE en el programa de la Cadena SER: HOY POR HOY, que podría interesarle. Cayetano Santana, Presidente de TMSE, ha comentado que “Admiramos y apreciamos a Juan Pérez Mercader y a Luis Ruiz de Gopegui, que han hecho y están haciendo una labor inapreciable, pero su pretendida visión realista de la evolución de la exploración espacial, es muy discutible. Dicho con todos los respetos, representan una visión reactiva de la exploración espacial. Las visiones que lideran actualmente la actividad aeroespacial son proactivas. Estamos en la era Internet, en la Era del Conocimiento, y hoy más que nunca antes, la iniciativa privada dispone de capacidad suficiente para acometer proyectos como el de una expedición tripulada a Marte. Por considerar un posible escenario, consideremos el siguiente ejemplo, a grandes rasgos. Estamos trabajando con un importantísimo grupo audiovisual europeo para poner en marcha un proyecto multimedia que permita financiar entre el 30 y el 35% de la expedición. Estamos hablando de unos tres mil millones de euros. El resto, hasta los 12 mil millones, repartidos en diez años, podría incluso cubrirse con la aportación de 75 euros mensuales, durante esos diez años, de un millón de los muchos más entusiastas espaciales distribuídos por todo el mundo. Alguien pensará que esta es una propuesta inviable, fantasiosa, pero, en fin, para innovar hay que ser creativos, y esta idea vale para iniciar el proceso creativo (mapas mentales, relaciones forzadas, scamper, método Delfos, Triz, tormenta de ideas, ...). Y aún resultaría más asequible si trabajamos en proyectos como Mars-PILOT, de Aerospace Systems, AS, que, gracias al uso de la robusta tecnología espacial rusa, haría posible la misión a un coste bastante más reducido que el asociado al plan Martde Directo. TMSE está colaborando actualmente con AS. No estamos hablando sólo de una aventura más del conocimiento, de una nueva empresa de exploración. El cambio climático es cada vez más patente, y es sólo uno de los fenómenos que amenazan a la Humanidad (colisión asteroidal, pandemias, terrorismo, guerras, agujero en capa de ozono, Sol, supernovas próximas, ...). En España, formando equipo (promotores iniciales) con grupos alemanes y australianos, estamos diseñando una campaña para proponer la colonización del Espacio como la mejor garantía para la supervivencia y progreso de la civilización terrestre, y dar así además el próximo paso importante, y natural, de nuestra especie, convirtiéndonos en la Civilización Estelar (Solar).” En la posdata 1 encontrará una oferta para cubrir una plaza de traductor e intérprete ruso-castellano para relaciones institucionales. The Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) mission would study the planet's upper atmosphere and ionosphere to seek clues about the planet's climate and habitability. The Great Escape mission would also study the planet's upper atmosphere to understand its dynamics and evolution, as well as look for traces of potentially biogenic compounds like methane in the atmosphere. NASA will select one of the two missions in late 2007 for launch in 2011. The mission will be the second in the Mars Scout program of relatively low-cost Mars missions, with a cost cap of $475 million. The first Mars Scout mission, the Phoenix lander, is scheduled for launch this August. -NASA Turns Down Langley Mars Airplane Project. The plane would have measured the near-surface atmospheric chemistry and captured new information about Mars' atmosphere, surface, interior and early climate. -Software Error Likely Doomed The Mars Global Surveyor Spacecraft. Fuente: SpaceRef.com – 15/01/2007 – During a meeting of the Mars Exploration Program Analysis Group, the group addressed issue of the recent failure of the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) spacecraft. Apparently incorrect software doomed the spacecraft. MGS stopped operating shortly after celebrating its tenth anniversary. "We think that the failure was due to a software load we sent up in June of last year. This software tried to synch up two flight processors. Two addresses were incorrect - two memory addresses were over written. As the geometry evolved, we drove the [solar] arrays against a hard stop and the spacecraft went into safe mode. Japan, in particular, is often singled out for having top-notch technological credentials . . . but no plans to invest in this new business with astronomical potential. But sadly, most government space agencies in Japan and elsewhere have long kept space development to themselves and used it as a tool to compete with other nations, he said. In Japan, however, he pointed to conservatism and a fear of taking responsibility for failures as key reasons why the industry remains closed. The Arctic city of Kiruna, which is used as a cold weather trial station for aircraft and automotive projects, has been considered due to its remote location in Swedish Lapland. The region north of the Arctic Circle is an immense snow-scape, where reindeer in the pine forests are practically the sole inhabitants. Kiruna is also the location of the Swedish Space Corporation's 9,000km2 (3,500sq. mile) rocket sounding range, Esrange. Virgin Galactic president Will Whitehorn had previously suggested starting space toursim flights with a voyage through the Aurora Borealis (or Northern Lights). "No human being has ever flown into an aurora borealis," says Whitehorn. "You have to go beyond the edge of space. Starchaser expects to start launching tourists to suborbotal space from Spaceport America in the Southern New Mexico high desert by late 2009 and be among a mere handful of space launch tourist firms. ESA's Survey of European Privately-Funded Vehicles for Commercial Human Space Flight was initiated last July as a means to stimulate European aerospace firm interest in technology innovation and the epected demand for space tourism. As work continues on its Scaled Composites-designed SpaceShipTwo (SS2) vehicle, the UK suborbital tourism provider wants a fallback position for environmental control. It envisages a lightweight suit with no hard points and perhaps a moveable face plate. "We want the safest possible system. We are pursing our own pressure suit [as an option]. I'm going to pursue both [a spacesuit and a shirt-sleeve cabin environment]," says Virgin Galactic chief operating officer Alex Tai. Under FAA rules published on 15 December, commercial spaceflight vehicles are required to have passive and/or active, closed or open loop, environmental control. Tai says Scaled Composites will look through the new rules, and is still conducting trade studies on SS2 systems including environmental control. -Dream Chaser Design Takes Off (Source: Flight International) Californian company SpaceDev has been awarded a $330,000 first-phase study contract by Benson Space to begin design of the Dream Chaser suborbital manned spaceship. The study's aim is to develop the ship and its hybrid rocket motors sufficiently for vehicle fabrication and testing in a second phase. The Dream Chaser is based on NASA Langley's HL-20 lifting-body vehicle design. Explored in the 1990s, it was intended to carry eight passengers and two pilots to and from the International Space Station, and designed to be launched vertically by an expendable rocket and land horizontally on a runway. "We look forward to completing this first-phase study contract in March 2007," says SpaceDev chairman and chief executive Mark Sirangelo.
