*JOB DESCRIPTION*

*Position:       Jaguar Conservation Program (JCP) Coordinator for
Mesoamerica*
Division:               International Conservation
Program:                Science and Exploration Great Cats Program Reports
to:             Coordinator, Great Cats Program (GCP)
Coordinates with:       Executive Director, Science & Exploration (SEP)

                         Coordinator, Jaguar Conservation Program (JCP)
Program Director, Latin American & Caribbean
Program (LACP)

The Wildlife Conservation Society seeks a passionate, diligent, and
promising conservationist to help plan, coordinate and administer a large
and growing jaguar conservation program in Mesoamerica (Belize, Costa
Rica, El Salvador Guatemala, Honduras Nicaragua, southern Mexico and
Panama)/./ This position offers an extraordinary opportunity to contribute
to the conservation of wild jaguars and the landscapes they inhabit in
Mesoamerica, based in the regional office of a highly
respected international conservation NGO.


_Position Objectives_:

     * In consultation with SEP/GCP directorate, promote and develop the
       Jaguar Conservation Program’s strategy and approaches in
       Mesoamerica, with particular attention to implementing the Jaguar
Corridor Initiative;
     * Provide guidance and assistance to JCP project development and
       implementation; facilitate communication and coordination among WCS
jaguar projects in Mesoamerica, and between WCS projects and other
institutions;
     * In close coordination with the Latin America and Caribbean
       Program, promote jaguar conservation in Mesoamerica and globally;
direct international attention to jaguar conservation in
       Mesoamerica; and help develop policies that further the
       conservation of jaguar populations in Mesoamerica.


_Principle Responsibilities_:

     * In consultation with SEP/GCP directorate and the LACP, establish
       and promote program priorities, strategy, and approaches in
Mesoamerica. Help to establish new projects, and country and
regional initiatives,

     * Work with governmental representatives, local communities and
       other relevant stakeholders to promote and implement the Jaguar
Corridor Initiative in Mesoamerica,

     * Provide guidance to JCP project development and implementation.
       Assist field staff in project design and execution through site
visits and consultation; maintain regular contact and provide
regular feedback to JCP staff; monitor and evaluate project and
individual progress,

     * Develop proposals and participate in fund-raising activities;
       identify new funding sources; meet potential private and agency
donors; speak at fund-raising and other development engagements;
maintain contact and reporting with funding sources.

     * In coordination with LACP, represent the JCP/GCP and its projects
       through contacts with Mesoamerican host country governments,
donors, governmental agencies and other NGOs through meetings,
speaking engagements, media interviews, writing, and general
communications.

     * Oversee the local technical, operational, and administrative
       management of the JCP program in Mesoamerica.

     * Assist the JCP Coordinator in preparing donor reports and proposals

     * Contribute to, enlarge, and uphold the Society's policies towards
       Equal Employment Opportunities for women, veterans, the
       handicapped and other protected groups.


_Experience and Qualifications required_:

     * Minimum of a Masters Degree in a field relevant to wildlife
       management, conservation biology or zoology, or an equivalent
degree in a relevant social or political science/./
     * Demonstrated strong working knowledge of, and experience with
       conservation issues in Latin America.
     * At least five years experience in large project management and
       administration.
     * Demonstrated ability to maintain positive relationships and
       collaborate effectively with mid-high level governmental
       representatives,
     * Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write,
       articulate, and synthesize information for governments, granting
agencies, and the general public.
     * Demonstrated ability to identify funding sources, develop
       proposals, raise funds, and participate in fund-raising
       activities, such as speaking engagements and donor interaction.
     * Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work
       effectively in an interdisciplinary work environment.
     * Ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English and
       Spanish.
     * Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets and
       presentation software.

       _Desirable Qualifications and Experience:_

     * Experience in field conservation or field research
     * Experience with legal contracts and managing budgets
