Geographical research from the middle of
19th Century followed a new paradigm that was framed under the influence of
Darwinism. It is believed that the development of geography as science became possible after having followed the
premises of the new paradigm.
This paper is based on the unused
correspondence encompassing Alexander von
Humboldt,Charles Darwin,J.Hooker,Charles Lyell as well as on some material
published in German , French and in English; argues that due credit was not
accorded to Humboldt whose scientific approach was
based on field study and comparative method that had
inspired Darwin's theoretical framework of his
theory.
