CAATINGA: WEALTH AND SUSTAINABILITY

RESUMO

O semi-árido brasileiro possui características intrínsecas não só pela baixa influência das massas de ar frias e úmidas oriundas da região Sul,  baixa pluviosidade e irregular distribuição das chuvas, alta média térmica, mas também pelas peculiaridades da vida da população situada na sua área de abrangência. Nesse contexto, a Caatinga, bioma predominante na região semi-árida ainda é carente de pesquisas e programas de conservação. O presente estudo objetiva considerar questões pertinentes ao semi-árido e, por conseguinte, à Caatinga, enfocando seus aspectos naturais-sociais, bem como os principais problemas ambientais enfrentados e as questões relacionadas às Unidades de Conservação na abrangência desse bioma. A metodologia geral da pesquisa abrangeu a pesquisa bibliográfica para a construção do referencial teórico a partir de autores como Ab´Saber (1974:1995), Melo Filho e Souza (2006), bem como a legislação pertinente para Unidades de Conservação, dentre outros. A pesquisa caminha para a reflexão das peculiaridades da Caatinga e do seu povo, uma história de embates e perspectivas.

ABSTRACT

The semi-arid region has intrinsic features not only the low influence of air masses coming from the cold and wet southern region, low rainfall and erratic distribution of rainfall, high average temperature, but also by the peculiarities of living of the population located in their area. In this context, the Caatinga biome predominates in semi-arid region is still lacking in research and conservation programs. This study aims to consider issues pertinent to the semi-arid and therefore the Caatinga, focusing on natural and social aspects, as well as major environmental problems faced and issues related to protected areas in the coverage of this biome. The methodology of the research covered the literature to construct the theoretical framework from authors such as Ab'Saber (1974:1995), Melo Filho and Souza (2006), as well as the legislation pertaining to protected areas, among others. The research goes to the reflection of the peculiarities of the Caatinga and its people, a history of conflicts and prospects.
