3DA, SWAZILAND (Update/Low Band Activity). Frosty, K5LBU/3DA0CF, reports
good news for Low Banders, and all systems are a go for July from Swaziland.
The operators are excited about the antennas for the low bands. He states
that thanks to a fellow ham, they will have (3) 800 ft. beverages. One
beverage will be pointed toward the U.S., one toward Europe and one toward
Japan. They expect to be on the air by the 9th of July or possibly the 8th.
Frosty mentions that they will have two very tall verticals for 160-80
meters (they are at least 70 ft. tall, and they will try to put them at
least 1/8th wave apart). He wished that they had several more operators
on this trip, but he guesses Wayne, W5KDJ/3DA0JDK, will have to do all
the CW. On 40 meters they will have the 40 meter kits on a Cushcraft
A4S antennas which will be close to 40 meters high.

3Y0X PETER I DXPEDITION (Press Release #2006-1). The following was sent
out by Ralph/K0IR and Bob/K4UEE on June 9th: "The Peter I DXpedition is
scheduled for early 2006. We are pleased to announce that contracts have
been signed with a two Chilean companies to provide a vessel and helicopter
for the DXpedition to Peter I, Antarctica during Jan/Feb. 2006. The actual
dates of the operation will be released on or about Sept. 1, 2005, but the
general time frame will be between Jan. 16 and the end of February 2006.
The actual dates depend on the vessel scheduling and weather considerations.
It is the team's objective to be at Peter I for a minimum of two weeks
with the actual operating time to be determined by weather and set-up time.
Because of the likelihood of it being a very long time before Peter I will
be activated again, we have set some very high QSO goals. Nine stations
will be established on the island and QRV on all bands 160-10m, on the
most common communications modes.
Most of the members of the 2005 team will participate in the 2006
DXpedition, but there are several slots available for new team members.
Contact either: K4UEE ( or K0IR (
for more information. This adventure is not for the faint-hearted!
Sponsors from the 2005 attempt are on board for 2006..
See <> for a complete list.
This is a very expensive project.  Although the team will be putting up
approximately 70% of the DXpedition's expenses, additional contributions
from sponsors are being sought.  Contributions by check or PayPal are
very much appreciated.  It is easy, just go to
<>. Thanks for your support!
We will be posting DXpedition updates periodically, so please check
the website often."

9A10, CROATIA (Special Event). Members of the Amateur Radio Club Koprivnica
will be active with the special callsign 9A10KC now through December 31st.
Activity is to celebrate the 10th Jubilee of the Community for the
Technical Culture of the City of Koprivnica. The QSL Manager for this
activity is Kresimir, 9A7K. Contacts with 9A10KC are also valid for both
"Worked 9A PFX Award" and "Croatian County Award". Also, a "Koprivnica
City Award" is available. For more details on the 9A10KC callsign and
the above mentioned awards, visit the following Web page at:

9M2, WEST MALAYSIA (Please Change Your Databases). Ian, 9M2FB, was heard
this past week on 20 meters CW just after 1515z. Ian E-mailed OPDX and
informed us that since January of this year, he has been issued with the
callsign 9M2FB (before that he was active as 9M2/G3TMA). He states, "It
seems this is a reissue of a callsign issued to 9V1OK many years ago."
Some QSL CDs and databases are still listing 9M2FB via 9V1OK. This is
incorrect. The correct QSL address for 9M2FB is on for direct
cards or via G3TMA for bureau cards.

A5, BHUTAN. Takkuma, JF1EGV, was heard this past weekend as A52EGV on
21255 kHz starting a early as 1200z and as late as 1600z. QSL via
operator's instructions. Also, A51AJ has been heard on 20 meters SSB
after 1315z. QSL via DJ2MX.

CY9SS, ST. PAUL ISLAND. After a rough landing on the island, the CY9SS
crew is now active until July 7th. Reported details by "The Daily DX"
indicate that "while the crew was coming ashore, the team lost a generator
and three tower sections, and the landing craft's captain hurt his leg.
High wind and rain also hampered efforts to set up camp." Also, the WX
has not been kind to DXpedition. Currently, the team is down to four
operators. Krassy, K1LZ, broke a leg and had to be air lifted by a
Canadian Search and Rescue helicopter (David, KY1V, went with them to
help out). More operators (5) are expected on Tuesday, weather permitting.
As this was being typed on Sunday, activity by CY9SS was on 20/17/15/12/10/6
meters. QSL CY9SS via VY2SS: 57 Tranquility Ln, Bloomfield,

QSL INFO AND NEWS..................
4U1ITU QSL INFO/STATUS. Jerry, N4JF, received the following message
from Patrick, F6IRF, who was recently active from 4U1ITU and according
to Attila, OM1AM, station manager: "As per club General-Assembly
decision it has been decided that - considering the fact that LoTW is
now operational and giving full satisfaction, one bureau card will not
be sent anymore and systematically for each QSO. All QSOs have now been
uploaded to LoTW, and we encourage you to use this system. - we will of
course continue to reply to all bureau and direct cards, and to special

SILENT KEYS............
*George, VK5ALS, reports that Don, VK3DZM, became a Silent Key (SK)
on June 4th. Don was a very keen, well-known and liked operator on
the 80 meters DX Phone scene for many years who will be sadly
missed by all of his many amateur friends, his friends in general
   and his family.

*OPDX was informed that Eddy, FK8CR, became a Silent Key (SK) on June
8th. Eddy, who was active for many years, was on the first IOTA
DXpedition to Chesterfield Island (FK5C) and on Matthew Island (FK5M).

OPDX and its readers would like to send out our deepest sympathy to
the families and friends of VK3DZM and FK8CR.

SU, EGYPT. Gab, HA3JB, will be active again as SU8BHI from July 1st to
December 31st. He will be active on all bands using CW, RTTY, SSTV,
PSK and some SSB during many of the major upcoming contests.  QSL direct

Logs will be available at:

TI0, COSTA RICA. Members of the Radio Club of Costa Rica and a U.S team
plan to be active as TI0HQ in the IARU Contest (July 9-10th) from the

meters CW/SSB. QSL via TI0RC. Operators mentioned are: TI2MOT, TI2GBY,

TT8, CHAD (Activity/News). Pierre, TT8AMO, was heard this past weekend
on 17/15/12 meters CW at various times between 0730-1730z. QSL Manager
Dennis, PA7FM, reports that "ALL" TT8M QSL cards have been answered in
the past week...except for a few "problem" cards. He is expecting the
TT8AMO QSL cards from the printer in the upcoming week, and will start
answering those immediately. He will try to have them all answered before
the end of this month. TT8AMO will be in Chad for about one more week
before leaving the country for a well deserved break. He will try to be
active as much as possible in this last week. Dennis states that if you
have worked him on some bands...please do NOT work him again....and again.
It will keep others from working him for a 'new one'. TT8M will return to
Chad on the 16th of June. He will bring a 5 element yagi for 6m (UKSMG
sponsored) and probably also a long yagi for 2m + amplifier. He will
concentrate on 2 and 6 meters (also he will try EME when the moon is
there at the right time). The end of the operation is still 'open' but
it's not sure if Pierre, TT8AMO, will return to Chad after his break.
The complete logs and a look at the photo QSL is available at the
following Web page at:

seems your editor had a mix-up of operators for this upcoming operation.
Rex, VK7MO, will activate both of these islands (not David, VK2CZ, as
mentioned in OPDX.712 last week). Look for him as VK9CMO from Cocos-Keeling
Island, August 18th to September 1st. Also, look for him as VK9XMO from
Christmas Island, September 1-22nd. These operations are soley 2m EME
using the digital modes (no HF), and will be staged from the Christmas
Island Cricket and Sporting Club (same venue as for VK9XD in 2003/2004).
This is the first ever known attempt at EME from either of these Zone 29
islands!! Of course during this period, terrestial 2m is also possible,
and given the 'hot' Hepburn propagation in this part of the world, it is
expected that opportunities to VK6 exist. YB0/YB1/9V1/4W3 are also within
plausible range, but not anticipated. QSL via VK7MO direct. Visit the
following Web page for more info at:

VK9X, CHRISTMAS ISLAND (Also VK9C). David/VK2CZ and Charlie/W0YG will go
to Christmas Island on October 22nd. They will be active from October 23rd
until November 6th. They plan to be active as VK9XD in the CQWW SSB Contest
that next weekend. Before and after the contest, Charlie will be on the
air as VK9XG (mostly on RTTY and CW), and David will be active as VK9XD.
David will return to Australia on November 7th. On November 7th, Charlie
will move over to Cocos-Keeling as VK9CG and be active starting November
8th on the same bands as from Christmas Island. QSL all contacts with
VK9XG and VK9CG direct only to W0YG. QSL VK9XD via David's QSL Manager

VP2V, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS. Glenn, WB9NDM, will be active as VP2V/WB9NDM
from the Island of Tortola (IOTA NA-023), June 22-24th. Activity will be
between 1300-1500z primarily on 20 meters SSB (14235 kHz). If conditions
permit, he will also activate 17 and 15 meters. QSL via his home callsign,
direct or by the bureau.

YK, SYRIA. Hikmat, YK1AM, is now active from Damascus and was heard this
past week on 14222 kHz after 0300z. He is the son of Rasheed, YK1AA, who
at one time was the only active ham in Syria for years. Rasheed became
a "Silent Key" (SK)  in 1991.
