DEATH OF PULGAR
VIDAL
It is with great sadness that we note
the death of one of Peru's legendary geographers ---Javier Pulgar
Vidal.
Born in Pachitea,
Huánuco in 1911, Pulgar Vidal became famous for his thesis regarding the
eight natural regions of Peru and its 96 ecological levels. He published more
than 50 ecological studies on his beloved country. He served as Ambassador
to Colombia on two occasions, founded the universities of Jorge Tadeo Lozano of
Colombia, the Universidad Comunal del Centro de Huancayo, and the Alas Peruanas
of Lima, serving as Rector of the last two. His funeral and burial is
planned for tomorrow (05/20) in Lurín.
He is survived by his wife, four
children, eight grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. May he rest in
peace.
