LSU Distinguished Faculty Award
The LSU DISTINGUISHED FACULTY AWARD
recognizes faculty members with sustained
records of excellence in teaching, research, or
service. |
William V. Davidson, Associate Professor
of Geography and Anthropology, was recently awarded the prestigious
Preston E. James Eminent Latinamericanist Lifetime Career Award in
recognition of 30 years of work as a geographer studying coastal areas of
Central America. During his six-year tenure as chair, Bill doubled the
department's endowment. His scholarship and service to the university have
been exemplary. However, it is his entertaining lectures and keen devotion
to his subject matter that keep his large sections of introductory
geography filled to capacity. His classes have stirred many a latent
interest among geographic novices. In addition to his teaching load, Bill
mentors four or five graduate students each year, providing them intense
support in researching, organizing, and editing their final projects and
professional papers. Thank you, Bill, for serving the LSU community for
over 27 years as an exceptional teacher, an internationally recognized
researcher, and a willing administrator.
