CRISIS GROUP - LATIN AMERICA  PROGRAM
The International Crisis Group (Crisis Group) is an independent, non-profit,
non-governmental organisation, with nearly 120 staff members on five continents,
working
through field-based analysis and high-level advocacy to prevent and resolve
deadly
conflict.

COLOMBIA - ANDES PROJECT DIRECTOR

Crisis Group is looking for a new director to head the Andes project who will be
responsible for overseeing Crisis Group projects and leading research in
Colombia and the
Andes region.
 
Role:
The Project Director will head a team of analysts and supporting staff (3 staff
members
in total). She/He reports to the Director of Latin America Program of the
organisation.
The Project Director will supervise the work of a small team of specialists
responsible
for producing high quality research, analysis and reporting. The Project
Director will
also oversee the preparation of report drafts. She/He will be based in Bogotá,
Colombia
conducting research and advocacy work in conflict zones of Latin America.
Extensive
travel will be required.

Responsibilities:
Run a successful research and advocacy program designed to contribute to the
objectives of conflict prevention, containment and resolution; 
Regularly conduct field research in the region and annually produce at least
four
reports or the equivalent in briefing papers and advocacy documents; 
Coordinate and supervise the research and analysis by team members to produce
high quality reports and briefings; 
Provide professional leadership, vision and direction to the work of the Latin
America team; 
Lead the advocacy activities of the project in the Andean region itself; 
Supervise the production and professional editing of some 6/8  published papers
in the course of the year and help conduct research necessary for their
preparation; and 
Work closely and maintain professional rapports with representatives of
governments and international and local organisations in gathering information,
seeking
input and feedback, and supporting the distribution of Crisis Group reports.

Requirements:
Strong and recent field research background with a significant policy
experience,
or experience in government, academia, international organisations, NGOs or
media, with a
substantial policy analysis component. Experience in the field of conflict
prevention is
a strong asset. The ability to formulate well-targeted policy recommendations is
essential; 
In-depth knowledge of Latin American politics and society in Colombia and
ideally
in the other Andean Countries as well; 
Fluency in English and Spanish. Knowledge of any local languages highly
appreciated; 
Excellent writing and analytical skills (applicants must submit a minimum of
two
writing samples of recent published articles or white papers on issues pertinent
to
conflict in Latin America and will be asked to take a demanding writing and/or
editing
test); 
Extensive knowledge of Latin American governments, civil society organizations
and press in the region; 
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including very good public
presentation skills, a strong capacity for effective teamwork and experience in
a
supervisory role; 
Ability to work in a fast-paced and often demanding environment; 
Experienced in supervising  budgetary and administrative matters related to the
funding of the project, operation of the office and research team; and 
Skills in information technology would be highly appreciated.
