This is a reminder about themes and deadlines for the Gender Commission's
sessions for the International Geographical Union Regional Congress in Brisbane,
The Commission has proposed the following themes for its sessions:
1. (Keynote) Regional responses to global changes: gendered views from the
2. Gender in natural disasters
3. Crossing paradigms in gender research and teaching
4. Indigenous and non-indigenous gendered knowledge in ‘development’
5. Violence and its gendered geographies
6. Crossing borders in everyday life: a gendered perspective.
If you wish to submit a paper for one of these themes, please contact Tovi
(tobiws@...) or Jenny Cameron(jenny.cameron@...) no later than
FEBRUARY with your
proposed paper title. We are asking that you send this notification so that Tovi
Jenny will have advance information about the potential program before the
registration deadline for submitting abstracts for Commission Sessions (February
24)(referred to as "Specialist Sessions" in the IGU announcements.
You will ALSO need to register and provide your abstract to the
Organizing Committee no later than Feb.24 if you wish to be included in a
"Specialist Session" (that is, one sponsored by a Commission). Papers submitted
that date are assigned to "General Sessions"

Abstracts are invited for contribution to the academic programme.
Critical dates are:
24 February 2006: Deadline for receipt of abstracts that are eligible for
in specialist sessions. These sessions are being organised by IGU Commissions,
Groups and by convenors of other sessions related to the conference theme.
28 April 2006: Deadline for receipt of abstracts for inclusion in
general paper sessions. However, where desirable, some papers may be relocated

registration fee is
received. Speakers are required to register and pay as delegates. Please be
aware that if
you wish to obtain the discounted Super Early Bird Registration fee of
payment in full must be received before Friday 24 February 2006.
