comprised of two colleges: College of Medicine and College of Agriculture. The
University enrolled students almost at the beginning of the academic year
1992/1993. The first semester started on October 31, 1992. Afterwards, more
colleges were opened. As a complementary to the University structure, many
scientific centers were established in the University during the past years.

the University in 1997. Afterwards, in 1998, postgraduate studies leading to

FINANCE
Dohuk University is a state university
affiliated with the Council of Higher Education and Scientific Research and is
supported by the Kurdistan Regional Government. The study in the University is
free of charge for students who are citizens of Kurdistan Region. The University
carries on its tasks depending on an annual budget allocated by the
government.
POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS
The main purpose of initializing and insisting to persuade
postgraduate studies (Master and Ph.D. degrees) is to prepare academic staff for
the near and far future for the University of Dohuk as well as for other
universities and technical institutes in Kurdistan Region, Iraq. There are no
alternatives because regional university graduates are forbidden to persuade
their postgraduate studies in the universities under the control of the Central
Government in Baghdad (due to a decree by that Government). On the other hand,
there are no means for the University graduates and the staff to persuade their
studies abroad.
M.Sc. and M.A. Program
Postgraduate studies were started in Dohuk University in the
academic year (1996/1997). The program consists of three semesters of advanced

and the minimum average mark of all examinations must be at least 70%. If the

his/her thesis in front of a professional and specialized examination committee
consisting of at least three members (at least one external) in addition to
his/her supervisor. The program leads to M.Sc. or M.A. degree.
