Distance Education

Distance Education is a way of helping a student to pursue a course of study that is different from the traditional classroom situation. He/she can learn without having to meet a teacher on a regular basis.

With Distance Education, the teacher and the learner are apart for most of the time. Learning takes place mainly through the use of specially prepared texts or self-instructional material.

Distance Education is now successfully used in many countries for adult and continuing education. It therefore contributes directly to national development.

The University of Guyana, through the Institute of Distance and Continuing Education now offers an opportunity to increase and improve knowledge and skills by using the distance mode of learning.

Courses available by distance methods are:
    Pre-University English
    Pre-University Mathematics
    Supervisory Management
    Basic Nutrition for a Changing Society
    Globalization and Management Fees

Tuition Fees and Refunds
The following fees must be paid:-
    Tuition fees
    Students' Council fees

Tuition fees for all programmes are due and payable at the time of registration.

The following regulations govern the refund of fees:

  • 75% of the tuition fees will be refunded if a student withdraw in writing from a course within one (1) month of the commencement of the Course. The Institute's receipt must be submitted with the request.
  • 100% refund will be made only if the Institute cancels a course/programme;
  • NO refund of fees will be made if a student transfer from a high cost course/programme to a course/programme which costs less;
  • If he/she begins to attend a course and subsequently decides to withdraw (for whatever reason) NO refund will be allowed;
  • NO fees can be transferred from one student to another
